“Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least of
these who are members of my family, you did it to me.”
Matt 25:40
Home, Hope and Hospitality
Of The Heart To Those In Need
" 'For I was hungry and you gave me
food; I was thirsty and you gave me
drink; I was a stranger and you took
me in; naked and you clothed me;
sick and in prison and you visited me.'
Then they will answer Him saying,
'Lord, when did we ever see you
Hungry and feed you?'...
Then He will answer them,
'When you did so to the least of my family,
You did it to Me' "
Matthew 25:40
We refer to ourselves both as the Catholic Worker Community and as the Catholic Worker House. Since opening our house in 1985, we have sought to provide care, comfort, and support to individuals who are homeless, poor, marginalized and in need of food and other basic services. We do our work following the philosophy of the Catholic Worker Movement which emphasizes faith-centered action, personalism, community building, nonviolence, simple living, and a respect for the environment.
As an independent and faith-based community, we do our work with the belief that God will provide for our needs through the community surrounding us - people of different faiths, races, and economic conditions. We do not accept government funding, and we are not under the auspices of any institutional church or diocese. We rely on volunteer labor and the donations of those who believe in what we are doing.
Advisory Board
Our Board of Directors is made up of individuals who have been committed to the well being of the SA Catholic Worker House over many years. Their role is to help with long-term decisions, fundraising, larger financial issues, and planning special events. The Advisory Board meets monthly and our House Coordinator and resident volunteers are present at the meetings to share opinions and to help the decision making. Click here for Bylaws.
Non-profit Status
We are officially a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. This means that contributions made to the San Antonio Catholic Worker Community are now tax deductible for federal income tax purposes. Our 501(c)(3) status is retroactive to January 2nd, 2004, so all contributions made since that date are also deductible. In accordance with 501(c)(3) regulations we will be issuing statements at the end of this year to everyone who has donated to us, detailing all contributions made during the year of 2004.
Please keep in mind that non-profit status does not mean that we receive any funding from the government. All of our funds are donated by individuals and individual churches.
